Auburndale 34, Haines City 24 (final)

HAINES CITY — The playoff-bound Auburndale Boodhounds topped Haines City, 34-24, Friday in a homecoming contest in front of 400 at Joe Stangry Stadium.
With the victory, the Bloodhounds improve to 5-5 on the season while Haines City closes out its 2007 campaign at 2-8.

The Bloodhounds kept Haines City quarterbacks Akeem Jones and Darrell Sirmons in check and used an interception, fumble recovery and kickoff return to help in its scoring.

With running back Keeshawn Maxwell out with an injury, back Ta'ree Armstrong did the bulk of the running for Auburndale, totaling 62 yards. Bloodhound quarterback Demarcus Davis threw two touchdown passes.

The Hounds got a 94-yard kickoff return by Brandon Reynolds and a 14-yard fumble recovery by Chris Holmes. Auburndale's Ike Jasper broke two tackles to score on a 57-yard touchdown pass from Davis.

Akeem Jones scored twice for Haines City and posted 78 yards on 12 carries.

Auburndale's Jamell Brown left the game in the fourth quarter with a broken ankle.
Auburndale plays ­Hillsborough next Friday in the Class 4A regional quarterfinals.
